musing on mountain topsAnd I've been thinking about mountains, and how hard it is to find grips on sheer rock when all you want to do is keep yourself from looking downdowndown because once you look you know you'll fall. And I've been thinking that I'm not sure if I'm strong enough to keep putting my hands above my head and pulling myself inches higher at a time when all I want to do is make it to the top and share the horizon with you. I keep thinking that each time I find a landing, each time I pause to catch my breath that it'd be so much easier to walk away. Why am I climbing this mountain? Because the view from the top promises to be spectacular.

The labyrinth splits, tall hedges spiral higher into infinity, each pathway dark and foreboding, neither offering anything different than the other at first glance. Shadows shift with reptilian shrugs, wind hiss-hiss-hissing with each ruffled leaf. Cat slit eyes in a humanoid face on a lion's pacing body laugh yellow sparks into the dying light of day. And with every step her tail twitches, and with each twitch she spits a word in purring tones. [[ one could lead you out, one could lead you deeper in ]] Idly she lifts a tawny paw, needle claw extending to remove untold bits of flesh from between terrible teeth. She wa
this is --This is sunsets and paper dreams folded into airplanes and tossed off of skyscrapers. This is when I find that all my crumpled wishes have turned to origami in yours hands, that your artist's fingers found what others threw away and smoothed the creases and ignored the tears and managed to find beauty in my street litter soul. This is recycled waste turned to magnificence; this is a hundred paper cranes burning holes in the ozone as they flit their folded wings to reach the stars. This is you risking countless tiny cuts to set me free.

bah. I've been in such a rut lately, both picture-wise and just emotionally. i dunno. I made this on a whim and I'm rather happy with how it came out... I wanted to portray the need for freedom and flight, of wanting things to sail smoothly, to slip the chains of frustration and unknown madness.

Either way, enjoy.
